Community Galleries Presents: Art Speaks Initiative

Join The Arc of The Capital Area in celebrating diverse voices in art.

We are proud to present the Art Speaks exhibit, part of our ongoing Community Galleries initiative that celebrates diversity and inclusivity in the arts. This exhibit highlights the incredible talents of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), creating opportunities for them to share their unique perspectives and creativity. Through exhibitions like Art Speaks at local community spaces, coffee shops, office buildings, and more, we continue to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of these remarkable artists.

Our Goals:

  1. Showcase the Art & Education Program: By featuring works created by artists from our Art & Education program, we aim to raise awareness of the diverse talents within our community. These exhibitions serve as a platform to inspire others, connect with new audiences, and invite new clients to explore our program offerings.
  2. Empower Artists Through Commissions: We believe that artists should be compensated for their work. Through this initiative, 20% of the sales from each piece goes directly to the artist, providing them with valuable income and recognition. The remaining 80% is reinvested into the Art & Education program to ensure its continued growth and sustainability.
  3. Enrich Community Spaces: From office buildings to coffee shops, we aim to transform everyday environments with vibrant, meaningful artwork that sparks conversation and brings a sense of community. By doing so, we not only showcase the artists’ talents but also foster a culture of inclusivity, creativity, and connection throughout the community.

Why support this project?

People should support this program because it has a meaningful impact on both the artists and the broader community:

  1. Empowerment of Artists with Disabilities: This program provides artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) a platform to showcase their talents and gain recognition for their work. By purchasing their art or supporting the program, individuals are helping these artists achieve greater independence, self-confidence, and financial support through earned commissions.
  2. Promoting Diversity and Inclusion: Supporting this initiative helps foster a more inclusive and diverse arts community. It allows people to celebrate and embrace unique perspectives that often go unnoticed, creating opportunities for underrepresented artists to be seen and valued.
  3. Strengthening the Art & Education Program: With 70% of proceeds reinvested into the program, every purchase directly supports its continued growth and the creation of future opportunities for artists. This ensures that more individuals with disabilities can benefit from high-quality artistic training and resources.
  4. Beautifying and Enriching Community Spaces: The program brings art into everyday spaces, transforming offices, coffee shops, and other public venues with colorful, thought-provoking works. This enriches the environment, sparks conversation, and helps create a vibrant, culturally rich community atmosphere.
  5. Creating a Ripple Effect of Good: By supporting this program, people contribute to a cycle of positive impact—empowering artists, fostering inclusivity, and helping fund initiatives that will continue to uplift the community. Every piece sold, every exhibit hosted, helps fuel a larger movement for social good.

Supporting the IDD Community

At The Arc of the Capital Area, we take pride in standing beside IDD artists, providing them a platform to showcase their creativity to the world. A percentage of the proceeds from each art sale directly benefits the artists, ensuring that these talented individuals receive the resources and recognition they rightfully deserve.
